Fucking finally! All the papers have been signed and ratified. May 16th we will be home owners.
One more day left with the condo and we can finally wash our hands of that place and its shitty managment company.
I'm typing this on an iPhone and yes, that does make me a better person then you. |

[Apr. 22nd, 2008|07:23 am] |
As most of you have probably already heard, Michelle and I unofficially have a house now. We made a bid on a single family home in Sterling at Sugarland Run last Saturday. After some counter offers and re-counters we finally reached an agreement. Now we have to wait for the bank that owns the house to forward us all the correct paperwork to sign for our contract to be ratified and official. When its all said and done we'll end up buying this house for almost half of what the last owner paid.
But thats not the biggest news.
Michelle and I are getting married on May 30th. Yes, of this year. As cold and clinical as this sounds we're doing it this year for tax reasons. However on our one year anniversary we're going to hold an actual ceremony and reception complete with booze and flower throwing and all that other sappy stuff people love. Right now my mom is trying to set up a bridal shower for Michelle and get my wedding band. I don't know if I'm having a bachelor party or anything. I mean, are you supposed to have a best man for a Justice of the Peace wedding?
While I'm here I'm going to admit that I have no idea how to get the process started on getting a Justice of the Peace ceremony. I know I have to go to the courthouse to get the marriage license but thats about it. I know at least one of you have done this before so any help would be awesome. |

Hey! Interested in how my life has been going? Don't worry, I'm not either.
Moving - Basically we are in a shitty situation with the condo we're renting. Our landlord was one of those guys that thought the real estate bubble would never pop so a few years ago he bought out a large chunk of condos in Reston. Now he's facing foreclosure on more then half of them. Unfortunately we live in one of those condos. Our options at this point are either sign an agreement to break our contract early (May 1st) with the benefit of paying half rent and getting out deposit back or we can roll the dice and hope he doesn't get the big ax from his mortgage lender. If he does go under we'd get a 30 day notice from the bank to get the fuck out and loose our security and pet deposit.
On the positive side Michelle and I are being forced to get our asses in gear to finally buy a house of our own. We have a good chunk of change for a down payment thanks to Michelle's company stock. The market is great for buyers and we have awesome credit. If we don't find something in time my parents have agreed to let us live in their spare room in exchange for us cooking and cleaning for them (my mom was in an accident during the last ice storm so they kind of need the help).
It looks like our area of choice is going to be Sterling. House prices are amazing out there. $550k houses are selling for around $245k. My commute would be a little longer, but finally owning a place of our own would be worth it.
Wedding - Michelle and I decided, much to my mom's protest, that we want a small intimate wedding at a beach or in the mountains. Don't worry though, we still plan on having a wedding party when we get back. When it came down to finances we decided it would be a better use of our money to put that $8-10k towards a house then a fancy ceremony neither of us really care too much about. Don't get us wrong, getting married is a huge deal for us. We just don't see the need for anything massive. AZ and CO have the best scenery we've seen so far. Its still over a year away so we have a lot more places to look at.
I'm not gay - I realized yesterday that my entire wardrobe consists of a handful of band/skater t-shirts, 2 pairs of jeans and a hoodie. I think its time for a change. |

Ok, so I'm off at 6am tomorrow morning. I'm going out of the country for the first time in my life. Well, I went to Canada once to see Niagara Falls...but Canada doesn't count. Its also the first time I've flown on a plane in about 10 years. Most of my traveling in the past consists of road trips. I've always been of the "its the journey not the destination" mindset. Also, I'm cheap.
Anyways, I'm gone until March 7th. I have no idea what to expect since I'm pretty much putting all my faith in Michelle's family to show me a good time. Apparently I have to have a drink with everyone in the family when I get there. Those of you that know me know this will probably not end well. I am a lightweight. I'm afraid I'm going to pass out after the 6th whatever they give me and I'll wake up with "DICK" written in spanish across my face. Who knows. They'll probably be awesome people.
I'll have a surprise for everyone when I get back. Some of you know what I'm brining back already. If you do...please keep it a surprise.
Be ready for a shit load of pictures. |

Dear everybody that invited me to their party or called at midnight,
Sorry. My back felt like someone had stabbed meat hooks into my spine and standing up for any longer then 5 minuets was more then I could take. I took a muscle relaxer, turned off my phone and fell asleep 15 minuets before midnight.
Oh well. Its not like I've never gotten drunk for New Years. This muscle relaxer is giving me the feeling of a hangover anyways so we'll just call it even.
Happy New Years everyone. I hope this year is better then your last. |

[Jul. 23rd, 2007|01:58 pm] |
I've finally eaten at a Sonics. Take that, Northern Virginia!
The verdict?
Burgers = Meh Chili Fries = YES! Grape Slush = YES! Cheery Limeade = FUCK YEAH!
Michelle and I have made it our goal to try as many things on the menu as possible this week so we can come back with a full, gloating report for all your poor people that have to watch those damn commercials all day while the closest Sonics is over an hour away...and its not even a full menu.
Tomorrow we try the chicken sandwiches, onion rings and shakes. Anyone want us to try anything in particular for you? I'll tell you how awesome it is and if its worth the drive.
Oh yeah, the beach is awesome out here. Our apartment is right on the shoreline. I could throw a rock from my balcony and probably hit one of the many surfers out there.
Ok...a lot of people out here have confederate flags. On everything. Bathing suits, boogie boards, surf boards, full flags waving from the back of their lifted pickup trucks, on their coolers and even on their kids floaty toys. I don't know how I feel about it yet. |

I'm sure most of you have heard me complain about this already, but holy fuck is it hard to find a band out here that doesn't suck ass. I'm not trying to be snobby or anything. I know I'm pretty much past my prime but I'm not trying to play with "New Metal: Keeping 1999 alive" band #23543. Unfortunately those are the only bands responding to my ads. At this point I'm playing for fun and am having a hard time finding people on the same level.
Shit, Brian's "Superdelic Funk Spaceship Adventure Club" or whatever you call it sounds more and more like a good idea at this point.
Matt, I know we've been talking about doing some sort of project. Lets do it.
Greg, lets tour Richmond doing obscure Elvis Costello covers.
Anything. I'll fill in for a band. I'll just record in the studio for someone. Anything.
I'm going through withdrawal. |

Thanks to everyone that came out this past weekend. It was a lot of fun. Special thanks goes out to Nick for the super kickin' rad t-shirt that I will post a pic of when I get home. I now own 2 t-shirts written in hebrew.
My parents got me this amazing chefs knife.

So far I've only used it on some chicken, but it cuts through it like warm butter.
Here's a really quick review of Spiderman 3:
Don't see it.
Really. It sucks.
I had to talk Michelle out of walking out after this scene in the Jazz club. If you plan on seeing it, you will know exactly what I'm talking about the second it happens. People that haven't seen it, you're better off not knowing.
Anyways... LIGHTNING ROUND! Parents took us out to dinner. My sister was a bitch and didn't even say hello when we were out. Took Monday off and basically did nothing. Played Guitar Hero 2 and realized that 16 years of bass and guitar mean nothing in this game. Went to the Dulles Air and Space museum. It was boring. Ben damaged my ceiling with a Wii remote.
Ok, that about wraps it up. |

| Beer at the end |
[May. 2nd, 2007|12:27 pm] |
Well, its pretty much official that MVTM is done. For good. I have returned to a life of irrelevance (assuming I had any relevance in the first place) and I need to find a new path. Without goals I will drive myself insane.
Here are the options I am considering:
- Culinary School. Believe it or not this has always been my kind of "Plan B" if music failed to become my profession. I'm looking at schools around the area and there seems to be quite a few. If anyone has any specific insight on any of them, it would be appreciated.
- Continue my music studies. I haven't been to any lessons or classes in YEARS. I'm sure I'd fall right back into them without any issues, but lately I've been questioning my whole future with music. Its burned me pretty badly in the past (and present).
- Going to NVCC or Mason for math or computer science. Seems out of the blue, huh? For all my love of artistic professions I've considered pursuing them as a minor study and spend my energy studying for marketable (i.e. useful) skill. This one seems more realistic but at the same time somewhat depressing. I don't know if I'm ready to give up my dreams just yet.
The band thing is out of the question by this point. Unless I can find an established band (Fugazi would be nice) I don't think I have the energy to build from the ground up anymore. I'd still love to play...its just not a priority anymore.
On a more positive note, Michelle and I have joined a gym thats right down the street from us. We're somewhat motived to get into shape and our plan is to be on eachothers case about going on a regular basis. I guess we'll see how long that lasts.
Oh, don't forget, Drinking at the Reston Town Center this Saturday (5/5) for my birthday followed by more drinking at my place. |
